Research has shown conclusively that parent involvement at home in their children's education improves student achievement. Furthermore, when parents are involved at school, their children go farther in academics and achieve even more!
Parent or guardian involvement at Ocali Charter Middle School is vital to each child's success, both at home and at school. This means parents partnering with your child's instructors and the administration of the school, working together to help your student achieve his or her full potential in our program.
While there are many choices for public and private education, every family makes a decision to enroll their child at OCMS based on a variety of specific wants and needs determined by the family and supported by the school. That decision can only be reached after careful consideration and a commitment to support the student.
OCMS provides an enriching curriculum, which includes opportunities for hands-on learning outside of the classroom. The students frequently attend field trips, and we are of in need of parent volunteers.
Below is a list of sample jobs at OCMS that may be filled by parents, family members, or other community members.
Field Trip Chaperone
Materials & Room Manager
Computer / IT
Drop off / Pick up duties
Parents are sometimes confused about their role at school. While parents, teachers, and students are a part of the “community triangle” and work together as partners, each has a different role. As the educational experts, the teaching staff is in charge of the classroom, and the parent's role is to support the teacher. Parents well suited to the OCMS experience are comfortable trusting the teacher’s expertise, supporting the teacher in his/her role, and contributing as asked.
We understand that volunteering can be challenging for working parents. Thus, there are several jobs that can be done at night, on the weekends, or remotely from home!
Parent/Family involvement is a key element of the philosophy at Discovery, thus we will work with each family on an individual basis to find a way for them to successfully be involved.
Ocali Charter Middle School and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. Family Access accounts allow parents to choose or change how they receive school and district information – including phone calls, emails, and text messages. Parents in split households will now have access to the same student information independent of each other.
School Supply List
As parents, ourselves, we know the challenges of buying school supplies, and have worked hard to create the smallest list, possible.
Due to safety and security of our school, backpacks are not permitted.
