Giving Overview

Ocali Charter Middle School (OCMS) is a non-profit, tax-exempt, tuition-free, public middle school in Ocala, Florida. OCMS is the only charter middle school in Marion County, providing students with an excellent alternative to larger schools. Under carefully selected leadership, our commitment is to provide students with excellence in education in a smaller school environment by helping them focus on their individual needs, goals, and aspirations.

How is OCMS Funded?

Like all non-profit charter schools, OCMS is partially funded through taxpayer dollars provided by the Florida Department of Education, and disbursed by Marion County Public Schools.  However, unlike non-charter public schools, our organization is managed by a separate Board of Trustees, who oversee our budget and accountability.
Fundraising is a necessary part of our organization, in order to ensure our students are given equal educational opportunities as other schools, while creating a unique, smaller-school environment to help cater to various learning styles, interests, and capabilities.
Donations are graciously appreciated in order to help supply much needed resources and tools to advance learning and student achievement, including additional textbooks, state-of-the-art technology, art supplies, reading resources, science equipment, and much more.

Tax Exemption

OCMS is a recognized non-profit, charitable organization, classified under 501c3 of the IRS Code.  All donations are tax-deductible as permitted by the extent of law.

From Our Chairman

Like so many parents who move to a new community, I wanted the best possible learning environment for our children.  After an exhaustive review of local public and private options, my wife and I learned about Ocali Charter Middle School, and knew it was the right place for our then sixth-grader.

Little did I know this path would eventually lead me to becoming the Chairman of the Board!
As a parent I know first hand the quality of care each instructor and staff member gives to the students of this school.  As a board member, I know the passion and deliberate intention our Trustees have to ensure our school is the safest and most rewarding opportunity for the next generation.  As a  business owner and founder of three other non-profit organizations, I know the challenges required to run and operate a publicly-funded organization with great expectations and a minimal budget.
Unlike traditional public schools that are solely funded by taxpayer dollars, our school receives partial funding through the Department of Education and the remaining funds must be raised to meet the other needs of our students.
By giving to Ocali Charter Middle School, you are helping disadvantaged children in our community receive the education they deserve.  Many of these students come from low-income families or receive financial support through other programs.  Giving to the school affords us the opportunity to help them reach higher, achieve more, and expand their horizons by providing newer resources, modern facilities, and much needed tools.
In 2016, the Board of Directors put into place very stringent processes and procedures to ensure financial accountability, integrity, and responsibility with the funding of this institution.  As a result, you can be assured that every dollar is not only put to good use, but used wisely for the direct benefit of each student entrusted to our care.
We welcome your support and thank you, in advance, for making a difference in the lives of underserved students in our community.
Best Regards,
Leo Pacheco
