Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Charter School?

Charter schools are public schools that operate under a performance contract, or a “charter” which frees them from many regulations created for traditional public schools while holding them accountable for academic and financial results. The charter contract between the charter school governing board and the sponsor details the school’s mission, program, goals, students served, methods of assessment and ways to measure success. The length of time for which charters are granted varies but most are granted for five years.     More>>

Do you provide before and after care?

We do provide before or after care.  Students may be dropped off no earlier than 6:00 AM and must be picked up by no later than 6:00 PM.  We understand that occasionally, due to unforeseen circumstances, a parent may be delayed in picking up his/her student.  If a parent is running late, please contact the front office for further instructions.

Do you provide bus transportation?

We have two bus routes to help meet the needs of students.

Does the school serve lunch and how much does it cost?

OCMS provides both breakfast and lunch options, FREE of charge to all students per Florida statute.  However, students are welcome to bring their lunch from home if they so choose.  FOR LUNCH MENUS, CLICK HERE.

Why does the school require uniforms?

Our uniforms are not simply an exercise in conformity.  They help students feel a sense of belonging to a team (just like sports uniforms) and distinguished identity where everyone is treated fairly without regard to name brand clothing or fashion trends.  This gives each student confidence in knowing they can concentrate on individuality and personal achievement, while showing pride in school (team) spirit.   Plus, it adds a measure of safety when students are dressed alike and easier to identify in crowds.

Why is there early dismissal on Wednesdays?

OCMS releases students early on Wednesdays in order for instructors to participate in professional development training, advanced programs, staff meetings, administrative overview and input, and for a variety of reasons that are designed to provide better classroom instruction for your students.  So, while students love having a shorter day, our staff is busy working behind the scenes to ensure they each get the best possible education at our school.
